The Giving Tuesday Movement
The Salvation Army is excited to take part once again in the Giving Tuesday movement. What began in 2012 as a simple idea—a day that encourages people to do good—now inspires hundreds of millions of people globally to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity each year on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. In 2022, we celebrate it on Tuesday, November 29.
Like many individuals and groups who participate in Giving Tuesday, The Salvation Army provides a variety of opportunities to create change in the communities we serve. The need for assistance is great across the Midwest and shows no sign of slowing down. We offer established ways for caring individuals to step up and make a difference in their own neighborhoods throughout the year.
While many call on philanthropists, policymakers, and grant makers to repair broken systems, Giving Tuesday recognizes that individuals can drive change by their everyday actions and decisions. Although people share concern for each other, some aren’t sure which organizations they should donate to or how to get involved. We eliminate the guesswork.
The Salvation Army has more than 150 years of experience supporting those who are struggling, suffering, and seeking a better life for themselves and their families. We use our resources to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. We also welcome volunteers who want to get involved and assist us in our mission.
This year, your donation to The Salvation Army can go further thanks to a generous donation match from Sam’s Club. The match will be applied to the first $1 million in donations made from Giving Tuesday, November 29, through Friday, December 2. This match will help ensure that thousands of families will not have to make difficult choices like paying their light bill or putting presents under the tree. It shows love to people in need across the country this Christmas and beyond.
In honor of Giving Tuesday, please learn about our services; donate to our efforts; or become a volunteer. Together, we can build a world in which the power of generosity is at the heart of society, unlocking dignity and opportunity right where we live.
